Redecoration and restyling of sitting room.
Ask any interior designer and they will tell you that it’s much harder to take over a project that is half finished, than to start one from scratch … and this was the case with this project.
When I arrived on the scene, the room had been decorated; it had curtains and a couple of pieces of furniture (see my Instagram feed for before shots). However, everything was a bit bland and needed a huge injection of style. The two pieces of furniture already in place were very bold, particularly a very large Chinese cabinet and the pieces were very different to one another in terms of style. Oh joy!
My brief was to complete the room and turn it into a grown-up sitting room for entertaining. Although the room had been decorated, I felt that it needed a bit more oomph. I went bold on the ceiling with a beautiful deep reddish, brown colour (taking inspiration from one of the colours in the Chinese cabinet), and covered the chimney breast in some amazing vinyl wallpaper.
A simple fire surround was designed and fitted, and various vintage (and some modern!) furniture were added. To finish off, I added some vintage accessories and enormous plants for maximum impact.
